Here’s a heads-up for anyone contemplating a new boiler or heating system. Consumer group Which has published a report on boilers.

As well as reviews of 34 boilers it singles out four best buys based on energy efficiency and ease of use. It also offers expert advice on efficiency ratings and suggestions on how to save money on energy bills.

You can read a guide that de-mystifies the different types of boiler and explains their controls. There’s also a buying guide and tips on finding a registered installer.
