IWOOT: perk yourself up in the mornings with the Tap Radio

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

From the people that brought you in-shower radio – here’s the latest in a string of daft but delightful bathroom ideas.

IWOOT: tap radio

Gift and gadget site IWantOneOfThose.com is now selling a tap radio to complement its existing shower tap radio – just the thing for those of us who tend to need a bit of a helping hand to get going in the mornings.

It’s a splash-proof FM radio with a speaker hidden in the spout and a volume control in the tap handle – just turn it clockwise to switch it on and turn it up and anti clockwise to reduce volume and switch off.

A scan function means that you won’t have to keep fiddling with the tuning if you’re in the middle of applying a three-stage cleansing and toning treatment – or whatever else it is you do in the bath.

Suckers on the back of the radio mean it’s easy to stick to ceramic tiles and it runs off two AA batteries, which you’ll need to buy separately.

Tempted? Well, this is just the latest in a whole range of bathroom diversions from IWOOT, so we strongly advise you not to click on the following link and check out the rest of them >>

Also, don’t take any notice whatsoever of the fact that this retailer is currently offering the discount code VOFF5 that nets you five per cent off.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for more bathroom news and offers. Thanks for visiting!

Wireless floating speaker solves most bathtime music problems

Wireless floating speaker from IWOOT

Bit by bit, the problem of how to listen to your music in the bath, back garden pool or home spa is being solved – and here’s a new product that takes us a bit closer.

Shower radios are all very well, but they don’t let you play your own tunes. And waterproof cases for MP3 players are only fun until someone forgets to seal them properly and the damp gets in.

So here’s the next step: a waterproof, floating speaker that connects wirelessly to a player left safe and dry in another room. It has a range of 150ft and the separate transmitter will plug into any item of audio equipment that comes with a standard 35mm jack.

Drawbacks? Well, it takes no less than seven batteries to run and it costs just under £40, so it’s not as economical as it might be – but if that doesn’t put you off it looks a pretty good idea. More here.

Linda Barker talks about Bathroom Heaven collaboration

Bathroom Heaven: Linda Barker range

Bathroom Heaven has been running a range of products featuring well-known interior designer and TV personality Linda Barker since its website redesign earlier this year.

But recently Ms Barker has been talking about what persuaded her to work with the company.

She said: “Design is integral to creating the perfect bathroom for your home. All too often our bathrooms are squeezed into tiny rooms or en suites off the bedroom and often this is when design needs to work its hardest.

“My bathroom range reflects what I would need from a great bathroom. The quality of the materials used is exceptional from the baths to the glass shower screens to the pillar taps and plugs.

“Bathrooms are intensely private places where we relax and find our sanctuary; I wanted the quality of this experience to be available for everybody, not just the privileged few. These products do just that, at a price that is competitive”

She said that, when creating the range, she drew upon her experiences of bathrooms around the world in order to design a bathroom collection that would offer practicality, quality and value for money.

The range includes the Linda Barker bathroom suite, the Linda Barker brassware collection and the Linda Barker roll top bath.

Bathroom Heaven boss Craig Dessoy is also delighted with the alliance, as you might expect. He said: “Linda Barker has created a truly stunning bathroom collection. She is one of the most gifted interior designers of her generation and Bathroom Heaven is delighted to be working with her”

New bathroom collections from Roca

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

If you’re looking for the very latest in cutting-edge, contemporary bathroom design, then take a look at the latest offerings from Roca Bathrooms – unveiled at this year’s KBB trade show.

Highlights of the range include the new Khroma suite and furniture range which combines vitreous china and polyurethane foam upholstery.

The most interesting thing about this is its use of colour – it’s been clear for a while now that the use of strong primary colours and natural textures as highlights in bathroom design is an up-and-coming trend. While you should still expect the market to be dominated by white sanitaryware, accents are everything these days.

The Khroma suite comes in red, blue, grey and silver and includes colour co-ordinated furniture in high-gloss finishes, or natural wood finishes as an alternative.

Also new for 2008 is the striking Veranda furniture range in patterned white and black.

The trend towards bathing as a luxury experience is boosted with the launch of the Becool bath – combining soft curves with sharp lines, double-ended and fitted with padded headrests, available in a number of sizes and styles to suit all bathrooms.

The Cala range features basins and furniture that incorporate geometric shapes and curves and is perfect for smaller bathrooms. Finishes include American oak veneer or high-gloss black lacquer.

Keep your eyes open for new basin collections including Urbi, Orbita and Art which feature organic shapes and sizes, flowing lines and forms, as well as playing a part in reducing water consumption.

There’s a retro look with Betap – twin-lever mixers with an angular, modernist design, and this extends to the Vintage XL shower head range too.

Look out for new ideas following the KBB show

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

If you’re looking for the very latest in bathroom trends then it’s a good idea to keep an eye on a major industry event coming up soon.

The KBB (that’s kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms) show is taking place at the NEC in Birmingham at the beginning of March.

While it is a trade show for industry professionals rather than an event laid on for the public, it’s used as a launchpad by all sorts of companies to unveil new product lines.

Manufacturers already announcing bathroom innovations include Finwood Designs with a new tile range, new colours and finishes from DuPont, enclosures, bath screens and steam cabins from Aqualux and baths and brassware from Impulse Bathrooms.

With the show attracting buyers, designers and architects, it shouldn’t take long for all these new products to filter down into the reach of homeowners.

So April should be a great time to revamp your bathroom! Watch this space…

Bathroom blog roundup: massage functions and gleaming surfaces

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

We thought that, as a new feature for the MyBathroomFinder blog, we’d have a look at what some other bloggers have to say about the world of bathrooms and home decor this week.

  • Gizmodo, the uber-blog for geeks in love with gadgets, is featuring the slider shower concept – a fold-in shower that also has a back and shoulder massage function. It looks great – but is the shower head big enough? See what you think…
  • The Trendir home decor blog is taking a look at the Four Seasons luxury bathroom from Italian firm Milldue. You thought bathtime was about getting clean? Think again. It’s “a quest for comfort and harmony” in which “surfaces gleam alluringly and stretch out invitingly.” Steady on there. Link safe for work? Probably…
  • The Keetsa blog asks: why should green-branded DIY and household products be more expensive than regular ones? (And then links on to girl gadget guide Shiny Shiny in search of an answer.) A very good question and one we’d quite like to know the answer to as well…
  • The Wow Bathrooms blog features some beautiful, cutting-edge bathroom design pictures, for those that like to indulge themselves with thoughts of the really high-end stuff. We like to fantasise over this as much as anyone – but we’re a tiny bit worried about these Planet sinks from Scarabeo. What do they remind you of?
  • On the subject of high-end, visit contemporary design blog CubeMe and swoon over this Swarovski crystal-studded toilet. That’s right, for only $75,000, created by design company Jemal Wright. We think it’s maybe taking bling a little bit too far as you could well suffer severe performance anxiety…
  • And finally. Over at The Internet Journalist the Dec 6 picture of the day has some very good advice for those that need it (don’t worry – it’s safe for work).

Are there any good links we’ve missed and ought to know about? Let us know…
