DIYer creates running toilet alarm


Here’s a great post from the Make Magazine blog – profiling a DIYer who has made an alarm that lets him know if his toilet cistern is running and wasting water.

The article quotes a piece in Design News that profiles Nick Knoll’s project – a switch made from magnets and foam floats that emits an audible alarm when the tank fails to hit its high-water mark within 45 seconds – thus demonstrating that it is losing water.

Or, as a commenter points out, you could always just change the washers that are causing the leak in the first place. But why spoil the fun?
